Welcome to Chestnut Class!

Chestnut is a Key Stage 2, Year 6 class that follows an adaptation of the primary curriculum covering a wide variety of topics in fun ways. English, Maths and Phonics are differentiated and delivered daily to ensure learners start Key stage 3 with robust, functional skills in order to access a senior timetable.

All lessons are taught by the class teacher. As well as all of the core and foundation subjects, our curriculum includes all aspects of transition and is specifically designed to get the learners ready for Key Stage 3.

In Chestnut, relational practises foster a mutual respect between pupils and staff that ensures all learners feel happy and safe at school. There is a strong focus on discovering yourself, emotional growth and self-regulation which prepares the learners to manage their own emotions and behaviour for life. We encourage independence, nurture self-confidence and work a lot on reciprocity and resilience, as these are often barriers to learning. Chestnut offers a fun and safe environment for the learners to be themselves and discover their own unique set of skills.
