Curriculum Enrichment at Market Field School

At Market Field School, curriculum enrichment is a vital part of providing a broad, balanced and meaningful education. Enrichment opportunities are carefully planned to complement the taught curriculum and to meet the individual needs of our pupils, enabling them to apply learning in practical, real-life contexts.

We recognise that many pupils learn best through active, hands-on and experiential opportunities. Our enrichment provision supports pupils’ academic learning alongside their personal, social, emotional and physical development, helping them to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Enrichment activities such as Forest School, swimming, Mini Duke and accredited awards encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience. These opportunities allow pupils to experience success in a wide range of ways, particularly where traditional classroom learning may present challenges.

A strong focus is placed on developing life skills. Through structured enrichment, pupils learn to take responsibility, follow routines, make choices, work towards goals and persevere when tasks are challenging. These experiences support preparation for adulthood, employment and independent living.

Curriculum enrichment also plays a key role in developing pupils’ social skills and relationships. Many activities are collaborative, supporting communication, teamwork and empathy, and strengthening friendships. Shared experiences contribute to an inclusive school culture where pupils feel valued, safe and supported.

Physical and outdoor enrichment opportunities promote pupils’ health and wellbeing, supporting physical development, sensory regulation and emotional resilience. Access to purposeful outdoor learning and physical activity enhances engagement and supports positive mental health.

All enrichment opportunities reflect our school values of Respect, Excellence and Friendship, and make a strong contribution to the Personal Development, Behaviour and Attitudes and Quality of Education elements of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework. Through enrichment, pupils are supported to become confident, motivated and well-rounded individuals, prepared for the next stages of their lives.
