Remote Learning
Remote Learning at Market Field School
Our Commitment to Continuity of Learning
At Market Field School, we are committed to ensuring that learning continues with consistency, care and high expectations, even when pupils are unable to attend school in person. Our remote learning offer is designed to reflect our in‑school curriculum as closely as possible, whilst being flexible and responsive to the individual needs of our pupils.
This page outlines what parents and carers can expect from remote education, should national or local circumstances require pupils or groups of pupils to learn from home.
The Remote Curriculum
What will my child be taught at home?
Wherever possible, pupils will access the same curriculum content that they would receive in school, adapted appropriately for remote delivery and individual need.
In the first day or two of remote education, learning may look slightly different whilst routines are established and teachers prepare for longer-term provision.
During this period, pupils can expect:
- Familiar learning delivered by their class teachers
- A balance of teacher‑led input and structured activities
- Adjustments where subjects are more challenging to deliver remotely (for example, practical PE or sensory‑based learning)
Our curriculum pathways, including Firm Foundations and Pathways 1, 2 and 3, continue to underpin all remote learning.
Daily Expectations for Remote Learning
How much learning will my child complete each day?
Remote learning will be planned to reflect pupils’ age, stage of development and additional needs.
Across the school, pupils can expect:
- Daily learning in English and Maths
- Opportunities to engage with wider curriculum areas such as topic, PSHE and life skills
- Short, purposeful learning tasks that prioritise engagement, success and wellbeing
The length and structure of learning will be adapted to suit individual pupils, recognising that some children learn best in shorter, more frequent activities.
Accessing Remote Learning
How will my child access their learning?
Pupils will access learning through our agreed online platform, which is already familiar to them through in‑school use. Teachers will share:
- Learning activities and resources
- Instructions and explanations in accessible formats
- Pre-recorded or live input where appropriate
What if my child does not have access to digital devices?
We recognise that not all families have access to suitable technology. Where needed, the school can support with:
- Loaned devices
- Alternative printed learning materials
Parents and carers are encouraged to contact the school if support is required.
Teaching Approaches
How will my child be taught remotely?
Remote learning at Market Field School may include a combination of:
- Teacher‑led input (live or recorded)
- Structured activities matched to pupils’ EHCP outcomes
- Visual support, modelling and repetition to aid understanding
- Carefully selected external resources to support learning
All learning is planned with pupils’ communication, sensory and processing needs in mind.
Engagement, Feedback and Support
What are the expectations for pupils and parents?
We encourage:
- Pupils engage with learning in a way that is manageable and positive.
- Parents and carers support routines where possible, without feeling pressure to “teach”
How will the school stay in touch?
Teachers will:
- Monitor engagement with remote learning
- Provide feedback on completed work
- Maintain regular contact with families
If a pupil is not engaging, staff will work supportively and sensitively with families to identify and remove barriers to learning.
Supporting Wellbeing
Pupils’ emotional wellbeing and mental health remain a priority during periods of remote learning. Staff will continue to:
- Check in with pupils and families
- Offer reassurance and encouragement
- Adapt expectations where necessary
This reflects our school value of friendship, ensuring pupils feel connected, supported and valued.
