Horse Riding

Horse Riding

Horse riding is a valued part of our Primary Physical Education curriculum and is offered to pupils in our Pathway 1,2 and 3 classes, until the end of year 4.  Each class takes part in a term of structured horse riding lessons, carefully adapted to meet the individual needs of our pupils.

Horse riding supports the development of core strength, balance, coordination and posture, all of which are essential for physical development and everyday movement. The gentle, rhythmic motion of the horse helps pupils to engage their core muscles, improve body awareness and develop confidence in controlled movement. These physical skills positively support access to PE and wider learning across the school.

Sessions are delivered in a calm, supportive environment by trained professionals, ensuring pupils can participate safely and successfully. Many children also benefit from the sensory and emotional regulation opportunities that horse riding provides, helping to build confidence, focus and wellbeing.

This provision strongly reflects our school values. Pupils learn respect through caring for the horses and following routines safely. Excellence is encouraged as pupils work towards personal physical goals and take pride in their progress. Shared experiences help to build friendship, communication and positive relationships.

Through horse riding, pupils build not only physical strength, but also confidence, independence and enjoyment of physical activity, supporting them to be healthy, active learners.
